Noor Riyadh: A Festival of Art and Light

DPM was delighted to be part of the team that delivered Noor Riyadh, the first iteration of the annual citywide celebration of art and light in the Saudi capital. The festival was developed by Riyadh Art, launched on 18th March 2021 and ran for three weeks.

Immersive, interactive and kinetic artworks made up the 30 installations spread across 13 locations in the city. Visitors were invited to enjoy the artworks on walking tours and via talks, workshops, films, and family activities. Altogether a programme of more than 270 special events were offered for the three weeks of the festival, all with Covid-19 secure measures

Noor Riyadh is international and has a particular remit to nurture Saudi artists: 40% of the participating artists are based in Saudi Arabia. Saudi artists in this year’s event included Ahmed Mater, Maha Mulluh and Lulwah Al Homoud. Major international names included Yayoi Kusama, Daniel Buren and Dan Flavin. The 2021 theme, Under One Sky, was inspired by the human impulse to gather around light, from star gazing or campfires – a meaningful focus when the Covid-19 pandemic has prevented people coming together for so long.

DPM provided procurement, organisational and strategic support to the festival, responding to the specific challenges of cross-border collaboration during the pandemic.
